About Lone Oak Tree Service

Owned and operated by Matt Hanko, Lone Oak serves California’s Central Valley with over two decades of combined professional tree care experience. Customers have chosen us time and time again because of our great customer service and understanding of the hassle tree work can be!

Founded with Passion, Backed by Science

Lone Oak founder Matt Hanko obtained a Bachelor of Science from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, as a Soil Scientist. While at Cal Poly, he took several classes in his special interest, Ornamental Horticulture. In addition, he took a variety of plant identification, arboriculture, and landscape construction classes. Upon graduation, he practiced Environmental Consulting for 15 years, performing soil and groundwater remediation. This laid the groundwork for business ventures following his time in higher education.

The Start of Lone Oak Tree Service

Matt moved on to a family-owned business in General Engineering for nine years prior to starting his own business, Lone Oak Tree Service. He practiced tree care services during college and then for 25 years following graduation as a hobby, which turned into his full-time profession and passion! As a result, he’s able to serve Oakdale and the surrounding Central Valley communities with the expertise you deserve from a tree care professional.

Chad MacDonald – Primary Climber & Partner

Chad joined Lone Oak Tree Service in June 2021, quickly proving himself as a dedicated and capable member of the team. With a natural talent for climbing and a passion for the trade, Chad took on site visits, estimates, and scheduling, becoming the driving force in the field. His direct approach, along with his field expertise, earned him a well-deserved partnership in June 2022. Chad’s journey from a newcomer to a leading partner speaks to his relentless drive and commitment to delivering top-notch tree services.

Gerald Polete – Project Supervisor & Partner

Gerald came on board in May 2020 and immediately began learning the ropes, with a focus on equipment maintenance, repair, and the logistics that keep Lone Oak running smoothly. Gerald’s role grew as he took on recruiting, invoicing, and accounts receivable, becoming the steady hand behind our operations. His methodical approach to problem-solving and his dedication to the business were key in his promotion to partner in June 2022. Gerald’s partnership is a testament to his quiet leadership and vital contributions to the team.
